THIS COTTAGE IS ABOUT THE OUTDOORS!  Flat level lot makes it safe for all ages.  If you love to swim or you hate getting wet - you will love the water here!  Crystal clear, warm, weed free, sand free, rocky bottom with a gorgeous view. You can stay in the water for hours without being cold!   Before long you too will be jumping into the water off the platform on the dock.  It is a great way to tire out the kids and you get to enjoy right by their side.  Going for long walks on the private roads is always nice.  Not worrying about traffic leaves a lot of stress behind.  Take in the beauty of the surroundings and see the power of nature.  Enjoy the front and the back of this cottage.  The slight hill behind the cottage makes for a great water slide place.  The level lot plus shade trees makes it very child friendly.  Our cottage is set up for families with young children with lots of toys for them to use.

General Description:

This is a Great family cottage on picturesque Head Lake.  It is located north of Coboconk and about 7 minutes north west of the community of Norland, under 2 hours from Toronto. It is bright (all new windows), fully insulated (keep cold in and heat out), clean and comfortable cottage with a Southern (slightly eastern) exposure offers an excellent view of the lake.   Head Lake has many different types of waterfront - it is not all equal.  Our cottage is set on the south side of the Peninsula on the east side of Head Lake.   This south side of the Peninsula (known as the A side) is the lower side with the North side sheltering the property from Northern winds.  The water/dock has sun all day.  Get shelter from the sun under the umbrella on the dock.  From the end of the 30 foot dock you can see the sunset looking towards the cottage slightly to the left through the trees.  The lot is level and grassy with a mix of sun and shade.   The entire 100' width of the property has water access from the huge granite rock.

The cottage is updated, small but very comfortable, clean and well equipped.  It has a large deck close to the ground at the front with a awning that cover's half.  Great for extra shade or an outdoor place incase of rain.  The boat house is equipped with the toys.  This cottage is near the end of a well kept year round private road.  There is only 100 feet of road beyond our property line.  There are two cottages after our property.  The last being 5 acres at the end of the point.  There are 14' + cedars separating neighboring cottages.   The private road Hilton's Point Road West runs 1/2 way through our property.  This cottage and road is quite child and dog friendly, since no traffic other than for the last two cottages would be driving past.  The new dock is 6 feet wide and 30' long with a 10'- x 12' platform at the end.  There are mooring whips to dock a small boat.  The bottom of the water is granite rock with no weeds at all.  Clear, warm and 7'+ deep at the platform at the end of the dock at the beginning of summer.  There is no marina on this lake which is well regarded for fishing quality.  There is a public boat launch next to public beach across the lake, 10 minute drive by car.  Convenience store, general store, grocery store, mini golf, go-carts, restaurants, bank, etc. all within 15 minute drive. 

Waterfront & Swimming

The waterfront is at the same level as the flat lawn area. Large granite rock leading to the gradual sloping water line.  There is a line of rocks that separates the grass from the water entry.  We have found this to be like a boundry line for the older children (3+) to know not to go to the water.  It would take time to get over the rocks to get to the water.  You need to access the water through the path on the lawn and then you have access to the entire 100 feet of water.  The water depth at the shore is only inches deep.  It has a gradual incline to deeper water.  The granite rock bottom makes for the water to be different depths at different places.  Some areas off the dock it is too shallow to jump in but anywhere at the end of the dock we have found it to be deep enough to jump in, it is about 7' at the beginning of the season.  There is a ladder off the platform for easy access to the dock. 

The water is crystal clear on most days and very warm.  There are spots in the water that is exceptionally warm.  If you swim to the middle of the lake there are rocks that you can stand on.  There are many small Islands to explore on this lake by canoe or paddle boat, which is provided.  Exceptional view from property and very nice dog friendly neighbors.  Water shoes should be worn.  There are mooring whips attached to the dock to accommodate a small boat.  There is even great fishing right from the dock!

There is a boat launch area on the west side of head lake at the southern end.  That is where the public beach is as well.  There is no marina on the lake.  It is a very quiet lake especially where our cottage is located.

The cottage is well equipped with a window air conditioner, baseboard heaters, electric fireplace, full size fridge, full size oven with exhaust fan, full size microwave, large toaster oven, rice cooker, baking pans, coffee/espresso maker, kettle, water dispenser (hot and cool), UV filter for lake water, new septic, telephone, TV (antenna), VCR, DVD, CD, propane BBQ, paddle boat, canoe with paddles, life jackets for adults, kids and infants, noodles, flutter board, clothes dryer, kids swing set, bicycles, non-motorized riding toys, campfire pit, patio furniture, picnic table, big bear chairs, swimming raft, huge dock and big deck.  There are mooring whips attached to the dock to safely dock a small boat.  This lake is rocky so large boats are not suitable.   There is a Mosquito Magnet on the property and has been for the past three seasons substantially reducing the number of Mosquitos.
 

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

This cottage has 3 small bedrooms all on one side of the cottage with a combined Living Room, Dinning Room and Kitchen. Two of the bedrooms have bunk beds with a double bed on the bottom and a single on top.  The third bedroom has a queen size bed.  There are plenty of pillows and comforters for all the beds.  The beds are in very excellent condition and are either new or gently used.  There are under the bed drawers for clothing.  There is also a  queen size pull out couch in the living room.  There is on 1 bathroom with a new toilet, new sink and shower.  Linens and towels are not provided unless arrangements are made ahead of time for an additional fee.

Our Comments

We absolutely enjoy every time we go to the cottage.  This will be the first summer that we are offering it for rent.  We hope that other families will get to enjoy the cottage experience the way we have.  We too will be booking the cottage for the summer.  We just know this year we won't use it every week as we did in previous years.  Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any inquires.

What a wonderful time we had at the cottage, summer 2005.  Swimming in the clear clean water keeping cool there or under the large shade tree.  Relaxing on the deck while the children enjoyed all the space to play.  Then in the evening hanging out and watching movies.   We had all the comforts of home with none of the pressure.  A truly enjoyable vacation.  We are definitely  looking forward to another stay.
